5 Gifts To Give Yourself This Holiday

By Melody Chi on December 23, 2014

Sure, the holidays focus on giving gifts, but sometimes you need a little loving too, right? So consider buying one (or all) of these five amazing presents for yourself this year!

1.   Free Microsoft Office 365 Download

If you’re anything like me, you’ve sometimes felt a little bitter that everything you use for school is so expensive. Books, parking, computer– it’s enough to make your wallet cry.

But finally you can cross computer software off that hated list, because Microsoft is now offering students at qualifying schools free downloads of Office 365!

Office 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access — in short, everything you need and more for all of your assignments.

To find out if you’re eligible for this awesome free offer, go here.

After all, absolutely nothing’s better than a free gift you’ll use all the time!

2.   Costco Membership

At $55 for a standard Gold Star membership, this one is admittedly a little steep, but in my opinion it’s worth it to gain access to cheap gas and even cheaper food.

Not to mention, Costco is a treasure trove for those looking for bulk amounts of items every college student needs, like printer paper, Sharpies, Post-Its and notebooks.

Even better, if you spring for the somewhat more expensive Executive Gold Star membership (one step up from the regular Gold Star membership, at a price of $110), you receive an annual 2 percent reward credit.

The reimbursement amount depends on how much you spend per year on qualified purchases, but being a consistent Costco shopper is usually sufficient to steal back enough to pay for the membership.

And arguably best of all, you can add one additional person to any account so they can get the great deals too, but you only have to pay a single membership fee per year.

So show yourself a little love this winter and give yourself (and maybe your bestie) a year of great deals!

3.   Amazon Prime Student Membership

An Amazon Student Membership gives you all the benefits of an Amazon Prime membership (regularly $99), but at half the cost!

This means you get free 2-day shipping, free unlimited picture storage (a new benefit!), access to a selection of free e-books, and free movie, TV and music streaming.

You can sign up for a free 6-month trial of Amazon Student, and if you’re like me and can’t get enough of Amazon, then you can upgrade to a year-long membership of Amazon Prime for only $50.

4.   Massage

Let’s face it: as much as you might love your family, friends and presents, this time of the year can be stressful.

That’s why you should treat yourself to a mellow massage!

“That sounds a little hokey,” you say? Well, I say there’s nothing ridiculous about letting someone pummel your tense muscles into a relaxed goo after you’ve dealt with Aunt Gertrude pinching your cheeks for hours at the family party.

Get my drift? I thought you would.

And a wonderful massage doesn’t have to break the bank, either. Sites like Groupon and LivingSocial always have deals on massages of all kinds, from Swedish to deep tissue.

5.   Amazon Kindle Unlimited Membership

Are you a dedicated reader or are just sick of having to spend tons of money on books for classes every year? Then consider purchasing Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited membership!

This is different from Amazon Prime, which admittedly does give you access to some free e-books but also focuses on other items.

But Kindle Unlimited is only about books, so it grants you access to over 700,000 e-books and thousands of free audiobooks. And before you ask, that does mean you can download as many e-books and audio books as you want!

Exciting, no?

A Kindle Unlimited membership also automatically gives you a 3-month Audible membership. This means you get to listen to any and all of the Audible audiobooks that you’d normally have to pay extra for even with an Amazon Prime membership.

Kindle Unlimited is $9.99 per month, but you can do a 30-day free trial to see if it’s for you.
