This fall season Verizon and USA Network are partnering to bring the Characters Unite College Tour to colleges and universities around the country, according to this press release.

The Characters Unite College Tour advocates the spread of awareness against widespread social issues such as hate crimes, discrimination and dating abuse through the use of technology and social media.

In order to promote this initiative, USA and Verizon have launched the “Characters Unite College Tour Competition,” a contest in which students can participate in order to nominate their own college or university to win a spot as one of the seven campuses visited on the CUC tour this fall.

According to Toby Graff, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the USA Network:

“The Characters Unite College Tour represents our continued effort to inspire students to speak out against hate, abuse and discrimination … [and to] encourage today’s students, our future leaders, to become champions of change at their schools and in their communities.”

You can enter the currently open competition here to potentially grant your college or university a spot in the Characters Unite College Tour.

Once you have entered the contest, you can invite your friends and fellow classmates to enter by promoting the tour on Facebook and Twitter. For every friend that you personally get to enter, your school receives a bonus referral vote to increase your chances of winning.

According to the press release, the school with the highest number of entries will land a coveted stop on the fall tour with a day full of fun and celebrations targeted at spreading knowledge about how to take a stand against social issues- and not to mention a very special guest appearance by a star of one of USA Network’s hit television series.

During tour stops, students from the winning schools will be invited to design a free “I Won’t Stand For …” t-shirt, which can be personalized to garner attention towards a specific issue by stamping a word to fill in the blank, such as bullying, dating abuse, racism, religious intolerance and more.

Students will also be able to take a photo that will join the Characters Unite online gallery, which can immediately be shared with friends and family via social media.

The gallery includes top musicians (such as Macklemore and Ryan Lewis), celebrities, athletes and political leaders, all whom have taken part in the Characters Unite campaign.

Make your college or university one of the seven chosen institutions visited by the Characters Unite College Tour. Grant your peers and yourself a memorable day aimed at combating all forms of violence and discrimination targeted at youths and individuals of all ages.

Don’t miss out on an opportunity to make a difference and nominate your school. But be sure to enter soon: the open contest ends on September 26.
