Why Shoppers Love August
August is considered to be the best month of the year for clothes shopping. This is due to the high quantity of items retailers are trying to clear off the shelf. With fall approaching and back to school shoppers lurking around every corner of the mall, the retail industry has learned to make the most of the month of August by earning every last penny they can on last year merchandise through incredible low sales.
Clearance
The Clearance section in almost any store is a great place to visit during the month of August. All of the summer clothing prices are greatly reduced to make way for the new fall attire and the remains of last winter’s stock is also marked down, to make room for the new winter ware that will soon fill stores shortly after the arrival of the new fall attire.
Deals that are Steals
During the month of August the deals you will find in retail stores are unbelievable. Probably one of the most common for teen clothing tends to read “Spend four dollars, get ten in store cash.” Many other sales fill the store during what’s now known as the month for “Back to School Shopping”. While this promotion is available for many other age group’s retail stores, it’s most prominent among the popular teenager clothing stores. Buy one get ones appear quiet often in family department stores during August. However, you have to be careful because the price of the one item can sometimes be marked up high enough to cover the price of the second free item. As far as all age groups go, August is a great month to stock up on basic essentials while the clothing stores drop prices immensely in hopes of moving last year’s inventory out of the store.
Tax Free
During the month of August there is a state tax exemption on items that qualify. Retail stores are one of the business types that fit the qualifications, so shoppers can spend hundreds of dollars tax free. If the sales and clearance racks are not an incentive enough in themselves, the tax break is enough to push any saving savvy shopper to make their way to the mall. The tax break only occur for one to three days depending on the state you live in, within the United States. The date also changes with the year so make sure to look up both your state along with the current year, to find your state’s tax free shopping days.
What’s to Come
With summer winding down and fall approaching, all the new fall and soon to be winter clothing styles fill magazines, store front advertisements and most importantly the stores. While retail stores are rushing to get rid of last year’s inventory, they do bring in some of the new fall attire giving shoppers a sneak peak at what’s to come. Generally by the end of August into early September clothing stores have emptied out last year’s stock and fill the shelves with the season’s newest fashion. Being able to see the new trending styles allows shoppers to better decide what clearance essential items are worth purchasing to pair with the incoming fall clothing.
With the month of August less than a week away, I hope you have gained a little insight on when to purchase clothing as well as what sales to snatch and pass up. Happy Shopping!
