Formula One traveled to Silverstone Circuit for the British Grand Prix on Sunday, and the race did not disappoint in terms of on-track action. On the very first lap, the race was brought under red flag conditions due to a massive crash involving Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen lost control when he went off-track in turn four and attempted to rejoin the track. However, he spun across the track and was slightly hit by the car of Felipe Massa. The wreck sent Raikkonen’s car into the guardrail and Raikkonen was able to limp away with bruised ankles. The race, on the other hand, was delayed for an hour as track officials repaired heavy damage to the guardrails.

On lap 10, a local caution was brought out when Estaban Gutierrez made contact with the Lotus of Pastor Maldonado in turn 16. Gutierrez tried to make a bold pass on Maldonado but couldn’t make the move, so the pair collided. The contact was hard enough to cause Maldonado’s car to lift into the air and land in the gravel. After further investigation, Gutierrez will receive a three position grid penalty in the German Grand Prix.

Misfortune also struck Nico Rosberg on lap 31, when he was forced to take his first DNF of the season. He was able to lead for much of the race over his teammate Lewis Hamilton, but started to develop gear box problems on lap 29. He attempted to continue the race for several more laps, but was unable to continue past lap 31. The DNF helped cause a dent in Rosberg’s championship lead, which was reduced from 29 points to 4 points between he and teammate Lewis Hamilton, who is currently second in the championship points standing.

The later stages of the race saw drama between Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso as they battled for fifth place. Vettel had started second in the race but fell in position due to a poor initial start and pit strategy. Alonso, on the other hand, was fighting his way up the grid after starting the race in 16th. He also received a drive through penalty at the beginning of the race for having both front wheels ahead of his assigned grid slot.

In the end, Lewis Hamilton took a win at his home grand prix. Valtteri Bottas, Daniel Ricciardo, Jenson Button, and Sebastian Vettel rounded out the top five.
