Senior Year Bucket List: The Do’s and Don’ts
With every new year of college, my friends and I compile a list of things that we want to accomplish, experience, and pursue by the end of the year (sort of like new year’s resolutions for the entire school year). However, after the first month of classes – if we are lucky – maybe one of the “bucket list” items has been checked off the list. And in many cases, we never fully experience that list item successfully, and as a result, we end up habitually falling into the same weekend activities. Next thing we know, it is winter, and we have forgotten about our list and our minds become preoccupied with finals and holiday break.
For those of us in our final year of college, the “bucket list” is shortly becoming a faint memory and never a reality. In an effort to make my senior year the best year of college thus far, I have assembled a short list of a few do’s and don’ts to put on your senior bucket list. Here’s to the time of our lives and making the most of the days flying by!
The Do’s
- Participate in a University “student” tradition, i.e. undie run, naked run, any student-based tradition.
- Take a recreational class or trip with friends, like surf class or a hiking trip to Yosemite.
- Go to as many free (or inexpensive) concerts/festivals/movies.
- Plan a trip to the city with a group of friends.
- Support your college and local sports teams (don’t worry, you won’t be considered a “bandwagon” fan).
The Don’ts
- Go to the same bar/nightclub/restaurant more than 2-3x in the same week.
- Spend every Saturday/ Sunday hibernating in bed.
- Occupy a lump of your time on social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook.
- Wasting your money on unnecessary purchases, such as excessive alcohol, drugs, concerts, festivals, trips, etc.
- Making unrealistic expectations for your bucket list, i.e. winning the lottery, achieving that Victoria Secret model’s body, spending spring break in Cancun, having thousands of followers on your Instagram/Twitter.
Whether or not you accomplish, experience, or pursue any/all of your senior year bucket list items, the most important thing is that you graduate college with fond memories and few regrets. With each new day, there’s a new possibility that is in store for you, it’s just up to you to take advantage of those opportunities and enjoy the ride while it lasts. Happy Bucket Listing!
